Smithfield Dry Canyon Cleanup- October 10th

Join Friends of the Canyons and Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife for a community cleanup of Smithfield Dry Canyon on Saturday, October 10th at 9:30 a.m.  Lunch for all volunteers will be served at noon by our friends from Camp Chef .  

Dry Canyon is located at 300 S and approximately 1200 E in Smithfield.

Pallet Burning

A sign on the door at the Cache Ranger District states that Pallets can no longer be burned on Forest Service property.   Sure, they might make great firewood but the aftermath is disastrous.

Below:  Leftovers from burning an estimated 20 pallets in a parking area (beware of flats) in Providence Canyon.  After an hour of removing over 1,000 nails and scattering ashes a mess still remained.

Friends of the Canyons Volunteer Guide

The Bear River Watershed Council recently published a observation and response field guide for our volunteers.  We have created this easy reference field guide to help volunteers determine the correct action needed for issues encountered in the Logan Ranger District National Forest.

For the past five years, the Bear River Watershed Council has worked with a coalition of diverse user groups, including the Wasatch Outlaw Wheelers and the Utah 4-Wheel Drive Association, to restore impacts from irresponsible motorized users.  The restoration efforts are making a difference.  However, without a continued presence of volunteers willing to report suspicious activity, issues, and vandalism, this effort could fail.

Announcing Friends of the Canyon

Friends of the Canyon is a new program launched by the Bear River Watershed Council, www.brwcouncil.org.  It is comprised of citizens concerned about the welfare of our local canyons.  All members of the community are invited to make a difference by simply keeping their eyes and ears open to questionable activities that could impact wildlife habitat, public lands, and our community's open space.  Each canyon has a designated contact person that will help coordinate communication and disperse information between the Logan Ranger District, volunteers and others.
